Peter Dredge is a man of many projects, Chief Winemaker at Meadowbank Wines in Southern Tassie he also dabbles in his side (passion) projects...namely Dr Edge which is his own exploration and exposition of all things Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling as well as another project called Brian Wine (with a couple of luminaries from the wine industry).
After a long career winemaking at Petaluma then Bay of Fires in Tasmania, Peter took on the role of Chief Winemaker at Meadowbank Wines in the Derwent Valley while pursuing his side projects. In the interim he has been nominated for Young Gun of Wine (2017), Halliday's Best New Winery (2018) and Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year (2020).
His side project "Dr Edge" is truly exciting, not just content with making great wine Peter has produced what can only be described as "studies" of the differences in terroir of 3 Tasmanian wine growing regions using individual clones.
Not satisfied with just one study, Peter repeated this over three vintages using 3 different Pinot Noir clones; then went and repeated the process again for both Chardonnay and Riesling. He went and did the same thing again in Oregon with Pinot Noir (because he could...).
The results speak for themselves, the wines he makes are exquisite.
Sadly due to the difficulties of making wine in two countries; sourcing fruit and managing the process...2019 is the last vintage we will see from Oregon.
