2021 Aphelion Wine Co. Single Vineyard ‘Brini’ Grenache - McLaren Vale
- Low stock - 5 items left
"The Brini Single Vineyard Grenache 2021 is sourced from the upper tank block owned by the Brini family in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale.
This block has been a staple of Aphelion from our first vintage and forms the backbone of the Confluence Grenache.
The roundest and most intense wine in the range, dark plum fruits dominate with earth and forest floor characters to create a wine of depth and richness. Sandy based loam soils provide fruit that gives intensity and a brooding edge."
The fruit for the 98 Point Aphelion Rapture Grenache 2021 ($101) is sourced from the Wait and Brini Vineyards.
"From a parcel planted in the 1940’s, fermented as whole clusters and aged in a single, larger-format cask. This is a shade darker in the glass than the Trenerry and has rounder and richer qualities. The nose is exuberant with pomegranate, blood orange, red berry and spice, as well as some sappy elements. There’s a subtly exotic edge to the fruit here and a deeper, richer style of perfume. The palate has such a suave, smooth and velvety mouth-feel with darker berries delivered in a smoothly rendered brand of tannin. Quite seductively plush. Drink or hold."
97 Points - Nick Stock - James Suckling
Plenty of exotic spice and pepper, blueberry and fresh blackberry, orange zest, liquorice root. Very stony feel, firm and spicy, all pumice stone and tense feel, raspberry and dried flowers, with a sweet citrus aftertaste lending something of an amaro edge. There’s a little warmth here, but the structure envelopes it neatly. Top shelf. Intriguing."
95+ Points - Gary Walsh - The Wine Front
