Yes, you are correct in thinking this is not a French grape varietal. It is in fact native to Georgia (who produce prolific volumes of Saperavi). But is it a really good example, Campuget planted a couple of vineyard up in the Rhone Valley and this is the result. Absolutely smashable red wine. Enjoy at room temperature or chill over ice, this will be a perfect match for anything from sunset to Duck to Cote de Beouf.
Sealed with a vinolok (yes fancy) so you can revisit over a couple of days. This is bloody lovely, the aromas delight with morelo cherries, macerated raspberries and an earthy jubey note. The palate is cherry, jubes, purple fruit (think plums and blueberries) with a hit of tannins at the finish.
