"I suspect this is the Rayner Vineyard with a new name. Old vine plantings. The Kelly/Bondar home patch. Back label says 100% whole bunch.

A whole lotta spicy and dried flower perfume. Ginger biscuits, damp earthiness, blackberry and iodine. Medium-bodied, very purple flavour here, sticky but firm tannin, aniseed and cocoa nib,  a saline character, a firm grainy feel to it, rich and spicy and saline, clod earth and peat, and a long coffee ground finish. Distinctive. Spicy and excellent, aniseed and dry spice. So nicely turned out."

Gary Walsh - The Wine Front

"I remember tasting this wine back in September and it stopped me in my tracks: the Bondar Shiraz McLaren Vale Midnight Hour 2020 sets a new course for shiraz in McLaren Vale, the region in which I set up my new tasting room and headquarters earlier this year.

It is a place that easily hits the mark of smoothly drinkable shiraz and is perhaps just a little too simple too often. But Andre Bondar’s star is rising, and he has unlocked a new style here with depth, richness, complexity, freshness and a velvety mouthfeel. There’s an X-factor to the texture and such plush, deep and resolved style.

We’ve seen this modern twist in the Barossa with producers like Sami-Odi and Standish, but Bondar has found that groove for McLaren Vale. It’s certainly one to watch.

Plenty of bunchy allure and a really complex style here, with a wealth of ripe red to dark-berry and plum aromas and flavors. Loads of spice tucked into the mix with some dark-stony nuances and dark chocolate. Roundly fleshy with soft yet bold tannins that have nice detail. Drink over the next eight years. Screw cap."
