This would have to be the most eagerly anticipated red wine release of the since the 2019 Vintage. You only have to look for Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier at retail, everything back to the 2013 Vintage is virtually sold out.

2021 is a return to the "normal regime" only 12 months in oak. Yields are down, but that is a common refrain among winemakers of late...mother nature has not been kind.

How does it taste?

Deep red in colour with aromas of floral notes, blueberries and a hint of white pepper, there is more on the nose but it's hard to keep track of. The palate is closer to full than medium bodied with a combination of red and blue fruit to entertain you. Still a pup, although drinking beautifully this will become more magnificent with time, fine boned tannins provide a wonderful structure to age upon.

Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier as a wine speaks for itself, it is one of Australia’s top wines for good reason. If you collect Clonakilla, you know this.

If you have never tried Clonakilla, you should…each bottle of Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier that I have enjoyed has always left me with a significant memory of the wine and enjoying it with friends. Very few wines have done that.

"Fantastic aromas of dark berry, thyme, white pepper, and lavender. Medium-bodied with firm and silky tannins that are fine textured, long and persistent that run the length of the wine. Energetic and focused. Drinkable but better in two or three years to take the edge off it. Screw cap."

The palate is delicious, red fruited, succulent and fresh with red fruits, white pepper, herbal lift and a bergamot tea element. Elegant, poised, refined, and with beautiful, fresh tannin too. Finding its mojo. Lovely stuff. 2022-2035+"
