Grenache seems to be in evolution at the moment. No longer those heavy fruit bombs of days past. Now most Grenache (at least from McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek) are exercises in elegance and judicious wine making. The result? Lighter style red berry driven glasses of deliciousness.
The girls (ladies) at Parley get first pick of this vineyard in Langhorne Creek before the machine pickers go though, and the quality of the fruit picked is top notch. Some time under carbonic maceration (a la Beaulolais) delivers an intense but delicate wine.
Aromas of plums, fromboise, pepper and spice leap from the glass. The palate delivers layers of raspberries and red toffee apple backed by very mildly chewy tannins.
The best thing is you can quaff this as a chilled red over summer.
