Pyramid Valley North Canterbury Chardonnay 2019Regular price $53.00
Certainly not new style Chardonnay, but a style common to the South Island. I would not use the term linear because it certainly isn't. There is enough subtle complexity to show you the winemaker knows what he is doing. Savoury minerally notes delight the nose then the palate is a wash of crunchy just ripe citrus and tropical melon and a textural delight. The winemaking is skilled and precise but true to Pyramid Valley style its unfined and unfiltered, just enough to play with your palate.
A good drinking Chardonnay.
From the Winemaker:
Slightly hazy appearance with a golden lemon hue. Attractive nose with Nashi pear and citrus fruits, with an underlying savoury complexity. The palate is vibrant with tension and length, showing a nice mixture of bright fruit and savoury elements that North Canterbury is renowned for.
"Jasmine and ginger, apple and nectarine. It’s saline, distinctly umami and nutty, roast chicken, with pickled ginger, apple cider and pink grapefruit flavours, a gustatory lactic tang, chalky feel and a savoury/floral finish of excellent length, with a slightly sour pucker to close. Delightful. Love it."

"Slightly dull straw color with aromas of golden apples, pears, grapefruit zest, spices, flint and hay. Medium-to full-bodied with bright acidity and a taut, phenolic texture. Full of flavor, freshness and wild energy. Drink now or hold. Screw cap."
