2020 Stefano Lubiana Estate Chardonnay - Derwent Valley

"A good vintage in Tasmania.
Gee, there is a surprisingly large amount of cinnamon, clove, and cedar oak here, which is OK for a wine with plenty of fruit weight, like this, but hey, you have to like a lot of biscuitty oak. Aside that, preserved lemon, peach and lavish clove spice. Toasty with bran-like complexity, tight with a chalky texture, and excellent length. It would be a much better wine without so much oak, but there you go, maybe it will settle with time in bottle. The overlay of winemaking is kind of overt, and surprising given the producer, but there you have it."
