First chance to look at this wine in forever, still very deep dark and brooding in colour. Hints of dark fruit on the nose but a lovely prominent meaty note at the back...that note when meat hits a searing hot grill or pan.
Super rich flavours flood the palate with ripe red fruit (raspberry) and black fruit (plums and blackcurrant) combining with more meaty charcuterie. It goes forever.
"What a wonderful and individual wine this is, you could be in the Eden Valley, or Ardèche, or the Northern Rhône, but what you have here is a superb wine of distinction, with the quirky closure of a crownseal, made by the gentle hand of a man who makes it as a tribute to his dear Mum.
So purple. So vital. Grilled meat, spicy, blueberry and fresh blackberry, violet perfume. Medium-bodied, savoury, meaty and spicy, but pure of intense black fruit – blackcurrant, raspberry, sage, succulent, yet tight. So fresh, hazelnut and fine-grained silty tannin, a graphite feel to it, maybe even some liquorice and Averna-like richness. Finish is long, clean and focussed. Yes. Special wine. Outstanding."
